Virginia 20x20x1.5
My maternal grandmother, Virginia, lived in Wyoming during much of my childhood, so our summer visits were precious and always too short. When she and my grandfather moved back to Illinois, I finally had the chance to truly know her. She became one of my very best friends. We talked about everything, socialized together, laughed together, and developed a relationship I treasure to this day. Purple dominates this piece in honor of her favorite color, while silver leaf recognizes her place as one of the matriarchs represented in this collection. This painting holds both the grandmother I adored and the friend I was fortunate enough to find in her.
Juried Exhibition: UPs & DOWNs 2026, Gallerium - Virginia, juried international online exhibition, October 31, 2026 - December 31, 2026. Collective Jury Assessment:
“The family dedication gives the material choices a personal anchor. Directed diagonal flow, extended drips, broken metallic texture and enough reserved ground to preserve their differences. The poured field communicates that relationship through color and movement, with the square format containing the outward spread of the marks.”
