Raymond 20x20x1.5
My paternal grandfather, Raymond, was a serious and steady man with a wonderful sense of humor underneath it all. I wanted his painting to carry that same grounded quality. The earthy rust, blue, green, and metallic tones simply felt like him, even reminding me of a sweater I think I remember him wearing. Then the paint did what paint often does and gave me something unexpected: forms resembling the northern lights alongside shapes that remind me of stalactites and stalagmites. None of that was planned, yet it somehow belonged. That combination of steadiness and surprise became exactly the painting I wanted for him.
