Doc 20x20x1.5
My maternal grandfather was Marion Malcolm, although he disliked both names and everyone simply called him “Doc.” Exactly how he earned that nickname has become family legend, with enough competing versions that the truth may be lost forever. A World War II Navy veteran, Doc was brilliant, resourceful, a gifted builder, able to fix almost anything, and an absolutely relentless jokester. Red, his favorite color, joins white and blue in recognition of his military service. I intentionally gave this painting a little chaos. Anything too controlled, predictable, or orderly simply wouldn’t have felt like Doc—and I suspect he would have appreciated that.
